“Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.” – Confucius
When the season is going well, it is easy to keep our heads held high and a smile on our face. The true test of our character comes when the going gets rough. When there have been days of practice and games without any rest, when game after game is lost and people start to doubt the teams ability, and when everyone around us tells us that our dreams are too big and “it’s never going to happen.” During these darker times is when we have the opportunity to be extraordinary and put our game face on, look everyone in the eye and say, “I’m still going NO MATTER WHAT.”
Kenneth Blanchard couldn’t have said it better when he said, “There’s a difference between interest and commitment. When you’re interested in doing something, you do it only when circumstances permit. When you’re committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results.” When there is only an interest in something, there will be many times when backing down and quitting comes easily. It takes courage, passion and determination to commit one hundred percent to living out your full potential, on and off the court. The strongest people are the ones who commit to being the best they can, NO MATTER WHAT. It doesn’t matter if they are tired, or if they have lost five games in a row, the NO MATTER WHAT mindset will cause someone to push through the lows so they can get to the highs.
The NO MATTER WHAT attitude also comes with a small price. I will warn you, the price of living this kind of life and having this kind of mindset means that sometimes it will be necessary to give up some of the things in life that we call important. It is easy to spend Saturday night out with friends, but when building your dreams, sometimes you’ll have to say “not tonight” and spend that time in the gym or on the court. You many find that some people in your life will not understand, and others may try to convince you that missing one practice won’t make a difference. I encourage you to take a stand with those who believe in your dreams, and make it clear to those who aren’t in line with your dreams, that you are committed to achieving your greatness NO MATTER WHAT. In the end, you will end up inspiring everyone with your dedication. You will also be able to walk away at the end of the season with your head held high, regardless of the outcome, because you will know that you put in the work that was necessary to be extraordinary. And when you do walk away with the championship, you will have what many people only wish for. In that moment, you will know that because you were committed NO MATTER WHAT, you have obtained what most people will only dream of having.
To be extraordinary at anything, it takes separation from the ordinary. Are you ready to be extraordinary NO MATTER WHAT?
